REFLECTION

They say “Experience is the best teacher”. So to become a professional teacher, a student teacher should experience the real scenario of being a teacher.  Practice teaching as part of the curriculum is a great avenue for the practice teachers who will explore the real DepEd school setup.

On my first shifting is Grade 1 which is composed of 64 pupils. I found it hard and traumatic because of their numbers and they are very young. They didn’t respond to their lesson, they have short attention span, they are always sleepy and lack of energy, they didn’t do their homework and seatwork’s and most of all they are noisy. I found it frustrating because I thought teaching was not for me. I enjoy teaching but in my few weeks of observing and helping in many task of my teacher, I thought I was not meant to become a teacher. I don’t know if it is really good to feel that way but yes, I think that way. As days come by, I feel it so boring to be in the grade 1. Even though my pupils are noisy, my critic teacher is good, she always share her food to me. She is thoughtful. But something is lacking with my critic teacher, she never gave me an evaluation sheet with my grades and feedback. My enthusiasm and motivation decreases to the point that I don’t feel I like to go to school. But that day change, the day when we had our second shift. Well, it’s really a Thanks God! After 3 weeks, finally! I’m with the new teacher and fewer pupils. In grade 2 I have 28 pupils and 31 in the other section. My critic teacher is so good. She always gives me feedbacks and comments for me to improve. I can make my lesson plan with more group activities because they are so participative. My motivation and desire to teach come back. I enjoy it already. I don't feel the tiredness, the less sleep nights doing the lesson plan and visual aids as long as my pupils learn from me and I learn from them. Latter on after 2 weeks in grade 2, I’m in grade 6, my last shift. Another observation week, I find it interesting and challenging to be in grade 6 because they are manageable and smart. That’s why I have to study my lesson very carefully to avoid mistakes when I am teaching them. I’m almost there. I learned a lot from my last critic teacher. I teach many subjects in a day. I always go to school early and went home at almost dark every day. But that moment, I felt that this is for me. God gave me this opportunity to make me realized that I was born to teach. Later on, I found my highest point. The satisfaction and more desire to teach and to learn. But the practice teaching period was about to end.

This is one of my most memorable experience. I like to say thank you to my critic teachers, my pupils and classmates. This experience will guide me when I became a full time teacher. I hope that someday, when i meet my pupils, they will remember me as their teacher. To become a teacher, you should become their inspiration.
